A background on the
Organisational Context
Each country has its Citizen Assembly, where various districts in the country are represented, to debate issues pertaining to the country.
We also have a World Citizen Assembly, where various countries are represented, to debate issues affecting the world.
The Citizen Assembly in each country operates like a government of a virtual country in that country, informally, for demonstration only.

A community of citizen assemblies

The organisational context of a Citizen Assembly
Think of it this way
We have a registered society or community organisation, known as the Rising Democratic Society (of Ghana, for example).
You join the Rising Democratic Society, as a MEMBER of the society. This makes you a virtual "citizen" of the Rising Democratic Society (which you can view as a virtual country).
The Citizen Assembly is the government (or, technically, a governing council) of the Rising Democratic Society.
"Citizens" (that is, members) of the Rising Democratic Society can elect other members to its Citizen Assembly (or governing council), or stand to be elected to same. In this society, elected officials are fully and always under the control of all members of the society.
Any "citizen" (that is, member) of the Rising Democratic Society can also lead debates at the Citizen Assembly because, in our system, elected officials only sit, listen to, and vote on debates at the Assembly, according to the wishes of the members they represent.

Membership as a Speaker
Becoming a member of the Assembly implies becoming a speaker (that is, representative) of a district, in your country's Citizen Assembly.
The office of a speaker is an elected office.
Getting Elected
Any citizen (member) of the Rising Democratic Society can stand to be elected a speaker of a district in their country during General Elections of the Rising Democratic Society, organised by the Elections Office of the Society.
To stand for election, you simply need to Apply Here. Note that:
- Candidacy is FREE;
- Elections are strictly non-partisan; and
- Private campaigns are prohibited, as campaigns are managed by the Elections Office jointly for all candidates.
Any citizen/member of the Society may also challenge or vie to be elected a speaker, at any time outside General Elections, if certain conditions are met.

Role of a Speaker
A speaker represents citizens (that is, members) of the Rising Democratic Society in their district, at the Society's Citizen Assembly. The functions of a speaker include to:
- Listen to, and seek to understand proposals submitted and debated at the Society's Citizen Assembly;
- Help convey, where and as needed, summaries of discussions from the Citizen Assembly, to the citizens in their district;
- Take steps to ascertain, where and as needed, the positions of citizens in their district on matters before the Society's Citizen Assembly;
- Vote on issues at the Assembly according to the expectations or, where given, strictly according to the instructions, of citizens in their district;
- Help grow membership of the Rising Democratic Society in their district;
- Help rally the general public (including non-members of the Society) to support civil campaigns (in the form of petitions and other actions) launched by the Society through its Citizen Assembly; and
- Oversee the work of other executives (appointees) of the Rising Democratic Society in the interest of its members.
